“Bullet Journaling, so what is it?

The latest ‘cult productivity system’ that in essence is like a modern filofax system. A place to record everything, organise your life, a safe space  where you can get creative and be inspired.

Taking up Bullet journalling also offers a refuge away from the glow of screens and the suck of social media – peace of mind in an age of information overload.  Doesn’t that sound irresistible…

As I myself have found out…I was for many years an avid diarist and list maker par excellence.  This behaviour made me feel in control, somewhat……. but also stressed me out despite me looking organised with paper, notebooks and post it notes everywhere.  Sound familiar?

Two years ago I came across this concept Bullet Journaling, and decided to give it a try.  I haven’t looked back since. Bullet Journaling ticks the box on (increased) productivity but mindfulness too.  Bullet Journaling helps you to live in the now, but also plan for the future.

Thus your life is captured on the pages of your Bullet Journal. Bullet Journaling is more powerful than other paper planning methods because it is also a life record.  It is a place where you can reflect on your accomplishments and happy moments. Research shows that taking time to self reflect, appreciate what’s going well, and create a vision for your future boosts wellbeing.

After I had been Bullet Journaling for a few months, some work colleagues joined me in the practice and we set up our Journals together. I was then asked to run workshops on Bullet Journaling and these have been sessions that have been both hands on and creative – teaching people to use the system and then to adapt it to their own lifestyles and needs. In my own organisation over 250 people, both staff and students, have taken up the challenge and we now have a community of practitioners who share ideas, thoughts, pens and washi tape.

I now run workshops outside of my organisation and it works for all groups, all ages, all sectors, all corporations – it is a universal system that can be adapted to individuals, organisations and projects.

Some feedback from my workshop sessions and happy customers:

Student …..thanks for the session today- it was so useful for helping to figure out how to incorporate project pages into my bullet journal, as mine is very agenda heavy at the moment………

Staff…I have become a bit of an enthusiast! I have decided to use mine to focus on work/life balance and it seems to be working.

Department…Thank you Liane for the workshop at NRP. The journal has already been so useful in stopping me stressing so much as I can get on top of everything. Can also track my motor bike adventures !

Academic….I am basically all over the whole thing and find it totally fabulous. I am completely snowed under with a book deadline and a whole heap of major things at the moment so the bullet journal is a massive help…..

Business network….Thank you for such an interesting talk and workshop yesterday morning. Always love a new Aha moment and I had a couple yesterday”
